How To See A Doctor / Nurse

Main Surgery (Welling):

  • Open Monday - Friday 7.00am - 6.30pm
  • Consultations are by appointment only.

Branch Surgery (New Eltham):

  • Open Monday - Thursday 7.00am - 6.30pm
  • Friday 8.00am - 6.30pm
  • Consultations are by appointment only.

You can also book telephone consultations with a doctor.

Our receptions staff are there to help you access the appropriate service. You may be asked by the receptionist to give a brief description of your problem before you can speak to the doctor.

Patients with more urgent problems can be seen on the day and patients are encouraged to call as soon after 8.00am as possible for an appointment or speak to the Duty Doctor. Genuine emergencies are seen urgently.

To make an appointment to see the doctor,

Please telephone: Welling Surgery - 020 8301 7889, New Eltham Surgery - 020 3260 1064, or:

Make an appointment using our online services (please note if the appointment has (HH) next to it, this is at our New Eltham Surgery.)

Really Urgent Problems

Really urgent problems will always be seen or dealt with urgently, which sometimes means advising patients to attend A&E (casualty).

We usually cannot, for example diagnose or rule out fractures without the benefit of X-rays and the treatment of severe chest pain is better managed in hospital.

Book on the day Appointments

There will be a few appointments available each day, which are released throughout the day by the reception staff. These are not available to be booked before the day. So if you ring from 8am or come to the surgery in person before 8am, you will have to wait for these appointments to be released. This does not guarantee you will receive an appointment for that day.

Duty Doctor

At Welling Medical Practice, the Duty Doctor provides urgent telephone advise between 09:00 and 09:45.

At Holly House Surgery, the Duty Doctor provides urgent telephone advise between 09:00 and 09:20.

When you ring you will be asked to hold on, or if that is not possible we will return your call providing you give us a nominated contact number.

Patients will be asked details of their illness on an advice call.

Booking Appointments

Both surgeries allow patients to pre-book routine appointments up to 2 WEEKS in advance with all doctors within the practice to allow greater accessibility to your chosen doctor. However for Emergency and urgent appointments you may have to see the duty Doctor on the day.

Surgery Access

Appointments are available to book up to 2 weeks in advance Monday - Friday 08.00 - 11.00 and 3.30 - 18.30. Some appointments are book on the day but are in high demand and get booked quickly. We can arrange on the day urgent telephone advice from the doctor on duty between 9:00 - 09:45 if we are unable to offer an appointment. If the doctor deems it necessary for you to be seen this will be arranged with them.

Please try to use the Surgery rather than attending Hospitals. Every A&E attendance costs on average £100. Please only use A&E if necessary.
